Surprise Rating Task (Experiment A, Set 1)

You will read a series of sentences. After each one, you will see a question:

“How surprised would you be to learn that … ?”

The statement that replaces “…” is based on the sentence you just read. Please answer based only on the information in that sentence, not on your own knowledge or personal preferences.

Use the 1-7 scale to show how surprised you would be:

1 = not surprised at all
7 = very surprised

There are no right or wrong answers.

In general, if the statement fits well with the sentence you just read, you should feel less surprised. If it does not fit well, you should feel more surprised.
